More Than A Training

What does everyone do after a long weekend away? Blog about it right?
One year ago I attended my training to become a childbirth educator with The Bradley Method®. I completed the extensive requirements and in June I became certified. It was an amazing feeling, knowing I worked hard and I accomplished this on my own. I was proud of myself.
I started to look into the other areas of my life and work. I had taken my training for placenta care specialist and belly binding. However, I have been a doula for 2 years and never attended a training. I could never find an organization that aligned with my views on birth.
What I mean about my views on birth does not mean what I want for my own births. I believe that every person is different and what is right for me may not be right for everyone. Actually, what is right for me for one birth may not be right for my next birth.
My view on births is every woman who wants support should be able to have it fully and without judgement.
Induction. “Natural” Birth. Cesarean Birth (planned or unplanned). Planned Epidural. And the list goes on…
What I found when I looked into training with ProDoula was an organization that not only trains non-judgmental support, but they also care about ALL the doulas they train. They want you to succeed. They want you to act professionally. They want you to be your best and they offer continued support beyond your training for just that reason. I decided to not only attend labor training for the first time, but to also add postpartum training as well.
Thursday night I checked into my hotel for training the next day. I found out early Friday it was way more than I was ever expecting.
It was not only the information I already knew, but I learned so much more. When they say non-judgmental support they mean it.
I laughed. I cried. I was inspired. I was empowered. I bonded with other women. I also learned a lot about myself. I am ready and eager to share what I learned with my clients and my family.
I am proud to say I am a pre-certified labor and postpartum doula with ProDoula!
